FITMENCOOK by KEVIN CURRY

5/5

The hardest part about cleaning up your diet is finding meals that are healthy, simple to make, and of course…actually taste good! For the past 4 years or so, I’ve been getting the BEST healthy recipes from Fit Men Cook and highly recommend it to beginners in the kitchen!

COOKING, HEALTH & WELLNESS

KITCHEN ESSENTIALS

If you’re moving out on your own, or just want to start cooking more at home, you’ll need to grab these kitchen basics! One of my favorite gifts I have ever received was my set of pots and pans – it has lasted me 8 years (so far…).

  • Pots & Pans: I received the Rachel Ray set as a wedding gift and have used them ever since (going on 8 years)! They are affordable and will last you a long time.
  • Silicone Cooking Utensils: I recently found this set of silicone spoons, spatulas, and other utensils and now I don’t want to use anything else. They are far better than plastic because they can withstand high temps.
  • Instant Pot or Crockpot (or both!) – I go back and forth between these two, using them at least once a week. They make weeknight meals so much easier.
  • Everyday Dinnerware Set – Get something that is microwavable and dishwasher safe! I like these because they are unbreakable.
  • Basic Silverware Set – I wouldn’t go with the cheapest option out there, but anything simple will do (unless you intend on inviting the Queen over for dinner or you have a really picky mother-in-law)

PANTRY STAPLES

There are some ingredients you will use over and over again in the kitchen – so it’s a good idea to always have them on hand. This is especially helpful when you need a quick weeknight meal. Instead of falling prey to the fast food drive-thru, you will have enough items on hand to make a healthy lunch or dinner.

FLU PREVENTION KIT

This is my anti-flu, cold-combative arsenal. I wrote a blog about all of the items I keep on hand year-round, but I really stock up in the winter. As a germaphobe, I take every preventative measure I can to ward off sickness.

  • Airborne Chewables – I take these in combination with the supplement recommended above for an extra layer of defense.
  • Traditional Medicinals Tea – From the Seasonal Sampler, I drink the Echinacea tea as a preventative, and if I do happen to get sick, I use the other three depending on my symptoms.

HOME FITNESS Favs

I like to get my workout in at home to avoid the drive to & from the gym, working out in front of other people, and using community equipment. I’ve tried many at-home workout programs over the years – many I disliked, a few I have loved – and these are my favorites!

IF THINGS DON’T GO AS PLANNED, DON’T WORRY…

THEY MAY GO BETTER THAN YOU EVEN IMAGINED.

CAREER & HOME OFFICE

HOME OFFICE FAVS

If you work or study from home, it’s a good idea to dedicate an area or room as a work station! This will help you be more productive and separate home from work. These are a few things I use in my home office!

COFFEE & WINE (ADULTING MUST-HAVES)

For the CAFFEINE ADDICT

I’ve used your typical drop coffee pot, Keurig, Nespresso, and French Press, but my favorite way to make coffee is with a Chemex pour over! I recently filmed a video showing exactly how to make it, and these are the exact items I use.

  • Chemex Classic Series 10-cup – This makes the perfect amount of coffee for 2 people!
  • Chemex Filters – To go along with your Chemex, you’ll want to grab some filters that perfectly fit.
  • Gooseneck Kettle – This little guy has a tiny spout to ensure the water gets evenly distributed and you don’t over pour. I explain the importance of this in the video 🙂
  • Coffee Burr (Bean Grinder) – if you want to be able to control the coarseness of the coffee grinds, you’ll need one of these! This is the one I use, but there are other brands out there as well.
  • Bones Coffee Company – I highly recommend starting with their sampler pack to find your favorite flavors. I still order the sample packs just so I always have wide variety of flavors 🙂 My favorites include: Bluesberry, French Toast, and White Russian.

For the WINE LOVER

Wine is definitely an acquired taste, in fact I don’t think I started really getting into it until I was around 24, but now I can’t get enough! I mostly stick to red wine, but do enjoy a dessert wine every now and then.

  • Red wine aerator – this little gadget allows air to flow and bring out the proper flavors of the wine.  I’ve had this exact one for 5+ years!
  • Stemless glasses – I’m not super snobby when it comes to the type of glass I use, so I pretty much will use these for any wine I am enjoying. What I love about this particular set is that each glass-etched design is unique, so they also act as their own drink markers and you know exactly which one is yours all night!
  • Corkscrew – probably the most essential item, right? If you can’t open it, you can’t drink it! This is the same one I purchased a couple years back and it’s awesome!
  • Wine Folly guide book – I bought this as an anniversary gift and still love flipping through it. It teaches you about the different regions where grapes are grown, how to go wine tasting, what food to serve with wine, and SO much more!
  • Wine Stopper – Yes, this is the exact one I use just in case you were curious. Although there are so many cool designs out there to choose from!
